Brighton’s 1st choice LB should start most games, but don’t be surprised to see a lot of rotation in defence, as Barco and Lamptey are more than capable backups here.
Was touted as great value at the start of last season, but Brighton were incredibly porous at the back, with Estupiñán only managing to pick up 3 clean sheets the entire season.
I expect an uptick in Brighton’s defensive form due to Hurzeler’s organised tactical approach, making either him or Dunk a good shout.
Lewis Dunk (£4.5m)
Dunk is the 1st choice at LCB and club captain, meaning he should be safe from the rotation wheel.
He managed 33 starts last season and 36 the season before that.
With new manager Fabian Hürzeler known for his set piece innovation, Dunk could get on the end of a couple deliveries, making him a great goal threat during corners and indirect free kicks.
Igor Julio (£4.5m) / Joël Veltman (£4.5m) / Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.5m)
There’s not much certainty when it comes to the RCB and RB roles, meaning these players should generally be avoided.
Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m) / Valentín Barco (£4.5m)
Capable backups who can play on either side of the defence.
Avoid unless Estupinan picks up a long-term injury.
When Barco starts, he will take most if not all set pieces.
