Leon Bailey (£6.5m)

  • Solidified his position as a starter on the RW last season, and with the departure of Moussa Diaby, he should play a more prominent role in Aston Villa’s attacking efforts this season.
  • An explosive player who can beat his man with pace and silky footwork, Bailey is a good option to chip in with assists for Ollie Watkins up front, and will score some goals as well.
  • The security of his minutes isn’t in question, as he’ll start most Premier League games and likely improve on his goal contributions from the previous campaign.

John McGinn (£5.5m)

  • Aston Villa’s industrious captain is nailed to start as 1st choice in midfield.
  • Likely to play in a more advanced position as an attacking midfielder, where he’s able to have more of an impact on the game.
  • Potentially a great option as he’s on a lot of set pieces and is adept at getting on the scoresheet, exemplified by his 6 goals last campaign.

Youri Tielemans (£5.5m)

  • The Belgian international is likely to partner up with either Kamara or Enzo at the base of midfield.
  • With the departure of Douglas Luiz, Tielemans may step up to take penalty duty as Watkins doesn’t have a good scoring record from the spot.

Jacob Ramsey (£5.5m)

  • Ramsey didn’t feature much last season because of injury, but if he gets back to full fitness and sharpness he’ll be in and around the starting 11 on a regular basis.
  • He’s good at making late runs into the box and capable of playing at LW, CM (in a three) and CAM, so it remains to be seen how he’ll be re-integrated into the team.

Morgan Rogers (£5m)

  • Seriously impressed with the chances he was given at LW last season, notching 3 goals and an assist from 8 appearances.
  • Has looked sharp in preseason, so should be likely to keep his position as a starter.

Boubacar Kamara (£5m)

  • Crucial to the way Aston Villa play, Kamara is the DM metronome who holds the structure of the team together.
  • When fit, Villa defensive assets have better odds of keeping a clean sheet, so keep an eye on his recovery from injury as he’s expected to return once the season commences.

Amadou Onana (£5m)

  • Serves as an understudy to Kamara in the defensive-minded midfield role.
  • He’s likely to get game time at the beginning of the season because of Kamara still not being ready to play.

Bench options:

  • Emiliano Buendia (£5.5m)
  • Ross Barkley (£5.5m)
  • Jaden Philogene (£5.5m)
  • Samuel Iling-Junior (£5.5m)
  • Enzo Barrenechea (£5m)
  • Lewis Dobbin (£5m)
  • Leander Dendoncker (£4.5m)
