Gordon was a revelation for Newcastle last season, joining the club from Everton and settling in relatively quickly.
Defenders couldn’t handle his ability to make diagonal runs in behind defenders, as well as his skill at cutting in from the left side or driving down the line.
He registered 11 goals and 16 assists, starting 34 times. We can definitely expect similar numbers this year as Newcastle will have a less hectic fixture schedule which should allow for greater recovery.
Gordon also wins his fair share of fouls, so should score decently on the bonus points system.
For £7.5m he’s a top midfield pick who you should be looking to fit into your team.
Bruno Guimarães (£6.5m)
Newcastle’s 1st choice DM started 37 games last season and is integral to how the team plays.
Unfortunately, his position as a holding midfielder really acts as a deterrent for bringing him into most Fantasy teams, especially because of the £6.5m price point.
However, he did score 7 goals and get 9 assists from that position last season so he’s certainly not goal shy, and with good technique on him he can definitely chip in with 4-6 goals again this season.
But for £6.5m there are better options who play further up the pitch, so steer clear of this one.
Harvey Barnes (£6.5m)
Here’s a sleeper pick who could shine if he gets a run of games in the team.
Barnes has a reputation for delivering goal contributions (5 goals and 3 assists from only 7 starts last year, but with his preferred position already occupied by Gordon, he may only get a chance on the opposite flank or if Gordon is unavailable.
One to keep an eye on as he can definitely get double digit goals with his health in order and a prolonged run in the team.
Miguel Almirón (£6m) / Jacob Murphy (£5.5m)
These two will rotate on the RW all season, so shouldn’t be in the conversation for worthwhile Newcastle attacking assets.
Murphy has shown good goalscoring form in pre-season, so he may be trusted to start at RW over Almiron in the first couple of game weeks.
Joelinton (£6m) / Joe Willock (£5m)
Joelinton is 1st choice LCM, with Willock backing him up.
Joelinton’s presence in the team has a noticeable impact on the solidity of Newcastle’s defence, as he’s able to press high and win the ball back good areas.
If he stays fit, all of Newcastle’s defensive assets become better picks as the likelihood of them keeping more clean sheets increases.
Willock is usually sharper in front of goal but won’t see much time on the pitch in the Premier League with Joelinton ahead of him in the pecking order.
Sandro Tonali (£5.5m) / Sean Longstaff (£5m)
Tonali is back from a betting ban and should provide a boost to the RCM position.
He and Longstaff will occupy this box-to-box role and will score a couple of goals between themselves.
