Son Heung-min (£10m)

  • Tottenham’s captain and 1st choice LW should be good for at least 15 goals this season barring injury.
  • There was a noticeable dip in his performances after the Asian Cup last season, so with plenty of rest he should be fit and firing for the new campaign.
  • He may get rested in some of the Europa League games to keep him fresh, which likely bodes well for his prospects in the league.
  • Will play up front as the striker in case Richarlison is absent, but he isn’t as effective in that position, especially against teams that play in a low block and limit space in behind.

James Maddison (£7.5m) / Dejan Kulusevski (£6.5m)

  • Maddison and Kulusveski will compete for the starting position at CAM, based on the latter’s pre-season performances in the central position behind the striker, which have been quite impressive.
  • Kulusevski doesn’t really have the pace to beat a man down the line and his reluctance to use his right foot makes him a lot more predictable on the wing.
  • His emergence as a candidate for the CAM position makes Maddison a slightly worse option due to the increased competition for a starting spot, although Maddison should still be the 1st choice for the time being.
  • Kulusevski has also been deployed as an OOP striker in the pre-season games, performing well by bagging a couple of goals. He looks much better in central areas and could play as the starter up front whilst Richarlison recovers from injury.
  • Maddison should deliver assists from set pieces, as he’s the 1st choice free kick and corner taker, although his goal scoring potential isn’t as good.

Brennan Johnson (£6.5m)

  • Johnson should have the right wing locked down with Richarlison injured, as Kulusevski may fill in at striker due to the Brazilian’s absence.
  • He’s got the pace needed to go on the outside and I expect he’ll be able to deliver accurate crosses to Son and Richarlison in the box.
  • Johnson managed a solid 5 goals and 12 assists from 26 starts last season, which I’d expect him to at least replicate this year with more minutes under his belt.
  • He’s a solid shout for £6.5m, provided he can maintain his level of goal contributions.

Yves Bissouma (£5m) / Pape Sarr (£5m) / Rodrigo Bentancur (£5m) / Archie Gray (£5m)

  • 2 of the 4 aforementioned players will line up alongside one another in midfield, either in a double pivot (4-2-3-1), or with Bissouma/Gray playing as the single pivot in a 4-3-3 formation.
  • Not great assets from a Fantasy perspective, considering their deeper positions on the pitch.

Bench options:

  • Timo Werner (£6.5m)
  • Manor Solomon (£5.5m)
  • Oliver Skipp (£5m)
  • Giovani Lo Celso (£5m)
  • Bryan Gil (£5m)
  • Lucas Bergvall (£4.5m)
